Media, NOW!

One thing this chapter covers is the media, and I feel the only reason for the media is for everyone's desire for the quick paced life. Everything from text messaging, instant messaging, commercials, emails, cell phone apps, information resources, and even social networking. If it isn't going to instantly gratify anyone they will they will not pay attention. If they do choose to pay attention, they will probably pay attention for short period of time due to everyone's desire for instant gratification. If you would compare today's news and information sources to a couple decades ago it would be two different worlds. Back in the day news was either delivered through the radio or newspaper and comparing that to today's sources it is probably one hundred times slower. I feel like it is beginning to affect kids in school because I know as a student I wanted everything to happen instantly, I couldn't sit there and listen to the teacher read the book or slowly go over something. Everything other than media for people is becoming a necessity to have instant gratification.

  1. I have noticed the increasing speed in which news and entertainment is delivered to us. It comes at such a fast pace that it can be hard to get a handle on any one subject. My wife and I will watch television talent shows like X Factor and Americas Got Talent. The camera jerks from so many different angles so quickly that you get distracted from the performers and just try to keep up. I think this kind of 3 second shot sequence became synonymous with MTV years ago. This was about the time they seriously got into reality television.

  2. Dear Johnusername,
If you think about it, everything is a faster pace. Not that this is how it was, but think of the "leave it to Beaver" days. The news was once a day maybe twice if you listened to the national radio, and read the local paper. Not the mention, the news was news not just the negative things, but the positive too. It's interesting how a person's view on life changes from one generation to the next. I don't see anyone slowing down to see the roses anymore, or going for a walk in the park (not for exercise, but for fun). The instant gratification need of society today makes the forecast for the next generation terrifying to say the least.

  3. This is so true. People always want more and fast. The combination of he words "wasting your time" has a very negative sound. We want media because it allows us to receive information faster. People believe that information is power and they want power. However, we must ask what kind of information we receive through the media. There is so much information out there in the media that it is not accurate. It is twisted for advancing specific agenda. Maybe it is good to slow down sometime and look for quality rather than to size and speed.
